Brocatelle : figured silk in which the design is formed by a raised satin and the background by the weft.
Damask : figured silk with a satin background in which the design is created by a change in the weave to permit a contrast between matt and brilliant.
Moire or Watered silk : silk with raised weft threads. The watered effect is produced by a process of crushing to create an irregular design.
Lampas : figured silk with a special warp which ties several wefts permitting the use of more than two colours.
Mexicaine : silk in which the design is created by one or more warp threads which appear on the surface of the cloth.
Droguet : figured silk of the XVIIIth century with small repeat.
